The way to eternal life is not easy. You must let go of your own will to do His will, you must overcome lingering sinful habits by having faith; choosing rather to suffer affliction rather then to sin. Striving is all about not giving up even if it means to suffer. When we are tempted God does not deliver us from the suffering caused by resisting temptation. Instead He gives us grace to stand against it. He provides the Shield and Sword, the Word of God’s truth to hack and slash our way to safety.

Cry out to God in the day of trouble and He will deliver you. Resist with Faith by using God’s Word against the devil’s lie. Don’t take the devil lightly when he comes; rebuke him immediately when he tempts you knowing that he comes to steal, kill, and to destroy. If you suffer doing what’s right, know that that type of suffering is an evident token of your salvation (thess).

We are told in scripture to “endure hardness as a good solider of Jesus Christ” (2 Tim). War is not fun but painful and harsh. Those enlisted are enlisted to fight. In the same way we are called to wage a good a warfare against our adversary the devil, who plows around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter ) – his devouring teeth are the lies he spews to convince us to sin to which we are called to resist steadfast in the faith (1 Peter ).

The devil’s sole purpose is to frustrate our walk leading to eternal life. He’ll come to oppress you with all manner of sinful and discouraging thoughts. It doesn’t help either that our own flesh will resist the things of God being attracted to sin. We must therefore walk in the Spirit and by so doing we will not fulfill the desires of the flesh (Galatians 5:16).

The road leading to eternal life may be difficult but along the way there are rivers of refreshments for the soul such as the Joy of the Lord which will be our strength (Nehemiah 8:10), Love that comes from God, and the Peace of Christ which comforts our soul (For more on peace check out “Peace I Leave you, My Peace I give unto you”). If we resist temptation and do not give in then know that there will be a blessing upon you. Even as God rewarded David for his faithfulness so will He reward you (Psalm 18:20).

The words of Jesus Christ which when are believed and put to practice will fill our soul with strength. It will help us to strive forward. Little do the majority know the benefits of God and therefore do we strive to reach our goal, eternal life.

Finally brethren, Be strong, be courageous; “strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.” (Act 14:22)
